Remember Her.

A few weeks ago, I was scrolling through Instagram and these images of Katie Holmes by DJ Quintero, stopped me in my tracks. I loved the simplicity of the black and white. No props or background to distract. I thought they were the perfect blend of sexy, playful, strong and real.

So I texted them to a few of my best friends and said, “I need to shoot someone like this. Who’s coming?”

We ate snacks, drank champagne, spent time on the couch not being in a hurry. Then we played dress-up like we were in junior high.

Remember those days? I know they were laced with the angst that comes with hormones. But do you also remember how it was easier to access that beautiful wild part of you? The truest part of you. The part that was free and brave, unedited and natural. When you were led by your heart and passion and dreams. When you weren’t afraid to play or scream or be messy.

Remember that girl? She lived in the moment before someone told her that her glasses were too thick or her thighs were too big - that her jeans were unacceptable, and therefore so was she.

Sunday felt like that moment in time, before we learned to prioritize other people’s opinions.

Only one million times better. Because we aren’t 13 anymore.

We’re 30 and 40 and 50 and enough has happened that we realize we no longer have the luxury of living someone else’s life. We are that wild, free, strong girl who turned into a woman. And she has replaced naivety with wisdom and strength and the power of being fully Herself.

If this post resonates, I want to open up this experience to you. These sessions will be at my house. And that is by design. I’m not renting a space like I have in the past. I don’t want this to feel like a business transaction. I want this to feel like you’re coming over to hang out to connect and have fun.

I highly recommend that you make the most of it and bring a friend. Over 20 years of shooting, I can unequivocally say that your photos will turn out better if you have a fun, supportive friend to enjoy it with. You can bring up to 3 friends. But I want to personalize these and not rush anyone. So the max is 4 people total. It’s probably obvious, but women only.

This session is for you if:

  • You’ve been through a recent transition, and want to feel like “yourself” again.

  • You feel like you’ve been playing small, and you’re ready to stop hiding.

  • You’ve been putting everyone’s needs before yourself.

  • You’ve decided that self care is a priority for you.

  • You’ve realized that life is happening now and you’re done waiting for the kids to grow up or until you lose weight, get botox, or _________________.

  • You’re fine with a casual environment, (i.e. my simple house) and a loose schedule.

  • And/or you’re just a badass and have been killing it, and want to document this awesome time in your life!

This session is not for you if:

  • You are still using the fantasy of some-day perfection to put off being seen.

  • You want a less casual environment, (like a public studio space etc.)

What I can promise? I’m an expert at creating comfort zones. You are in good hands. And your experience is as important to me as your photographs… if not more.

Portrait Session - Raquel

The first time I did Raquel's portraits, she was around 5 or 6 years old, and wearing Angel wings. It was also 2 studio locations ago, and when my business name was Relish. So I was super happy to find that her Mom, Annette was able to track me down after all this time. It was amazing to see the gorgeous woman she's grown into. And it was so much fun working with you guys, as usual. xo-Maile
